Microsoft has announced they will open their first Canadian datacenters for Office365 and Azure in Toronto and Quebec City.
The plan is to run Azure services by the end of the year with Office365 and Dynamics to follow. This will give Canadians the option to run their Office365 workload in Canada, bypassing the privacy issues surrounding the Patriot Act. Microsoft would not say exactly where the datacenter will be located or how many jobs would be created as a result, but this is great news for Canadian businesses concerned about privacy issues with Office365.
Toronto Mayor John Tory was present and spoke at the announcement.
