Extending The IT Pyramid

We’re launching a mobile device management service this month that has terrific potential. Wireless Wolf. You might hear a wolf howling over my little video clip about now. Apologies for that from my staff, but fun is part of Quartet’s culture and we’re really excited by this launch. However, between the product launch and the upcoming Beijing Olympics, I am reminded of the pyramid concept. It states that the broader the base of the pyramid, the taller the peak can be. The idea stems from basic physics and can be applied to many areas.

In track & field, the base of the pyramid is off-season distance running and weight training and this work usually defines how high you can peak during the competitive season. Peaking well off an inadequate base is possible, but you can never sustain it. Your pyramid is not stable and something will happen to topple it. Let’s push the concept a little more. After studying Japanese full time for several years, my progress stalled until I went back and examined the etymology of the written language. I had peaked off an inadequate base. In the movie “Akira and the Bee”, the heroine becomes a spelling bee champion after studying Latin. The pyramid concept is simple and there are lots of examples. Does it really apply to IT?

We obviously think so. Our position is that the better and broader the base of your IT pyramid, the higher you can sustainably take it. Balance between infrastructure and applications should be maintained and is one of the reasons that we embrace working with application developers. One out of step with the other leads to either inefficiency or instability.

That brings us to the Wireless Wolf as a clear extension of the pyramid concept. The application/use of cellular devices is way ahead of the infrastructure available to manage them. Wireless Wolf services allow you to manage your cellular devices and the huge cost savings are a result of rebalancing the IT pyramid.

The basis of Wireless Wolfe services is simple. We electronically import your usage data directly into a secure on-line database and services are configured around the resulting capabilities. Exception reports, usage details, departmental allocations, inventory management, etc. With the ability to efficiently analyze your cellular data cube every month, you’ll be able to manage a part of your IT infrastructure that has been a black hole for years.

We hope you look hard at what Wireless Wolf services can do for you. It is a natural extension of IT infrastructure management and something we feel passionately about. We estimate a 3 month payback on hard costs savings alone and that the minimum efficient number of devices is only 16. We guarantee that our fees will be less than half your savings. Now that the wolf stopped howling and my video is off the screen, call us to discuss the possibilities.

Regards,   Robert Bracey
