Wireless Cost Reduction
G4S Security Services(Canada) Ltd. is the Canadian Division of the World’s largest security company. With over 7,000 employees providing guarding, alarm response, and concierge services in 30 locations across Ontario and Western Canada. G4S is a leader in the Canadian market.
Situation
After several acquisitions and rapid growth, some of G4S’s decision making processes and financial administration had become decentralized.
Management had little or no visibility over wireless spending. Invoicing errors, employee usage and behavior went unchecked. There were no telecommunication policies covering acceptable use or device/technology standardization. Branch and head office finance staff spent several days each month, reconciling and allocating expenses.
Solution
Quartet centralized all of G4S’s billing information. Billing data from 25 different wireless accounts was uploaded into Quartet’s Wireless Wolf software tool.
We analyzed the data and identified usage patterns for an 8 month period.
We determined exactly how much push-to-talk, PCS air time, mobilie-to-mobile, in-bound, out-bound, time-of-day, peak and off-peak airtime was needed across 600 users.
We identified savings by deactivating or suspending inactive devices, and eliminating unapproved features such as web browsing, ring tones and GPS.
Armed with this detailed usage profile, we helped G4S obtain additional cost reductions by accurately aligning the cell phone plan with their needs and negotiating price discounts, and credits.
We also automated the invoice review, reconciliation and allocation process. What used to take 6-8 man-days each month is now completed in a matter of minutes at head office.
Results
Wireless Costs were reduced 67%, which had a material impact on G4S’s bottom line. The implementation of Quartet’s Wireless Wolf Software improved transparency and control so that spending is maintained at these levels.
